This gem of a restaurant--sister to Taichung's An-Lan Restaurant and Mimi's Steakhouse--actually looks like something you might find in Palm Springs, California. Situated just outside the famous woodcarving town of Sanyi, the white Spanish mission-style building is tastefully decorated inside to match its upscale Western cuisine, complete with chandeliers, white tablecloths, classy dishware and cutlery and uniformed staff. Two indoor dining areas seat 60 and open onto a big outdoor deck with more tables--shaded by tall palms, plenty of tropical greenery and umbrellas--and a nice view of nearby hills. Chef Nick Chen offers a good menu that ranges from high-end sets to very reasonable rice and pasta entrees and NT$480 luncheon sets. Other sets include the 8-ounce U.S. Fillet Steak (NT$1,480), 12-ounce U.S. Sirloin Steak, 8-ounce New Zealand Lamb Chop (NT$630 individual, NT$780 set), and Surf & Turf (NT$780/930). Pasta and rice dishes start at NT$250 (NT$400 set) and include items like Chicken Rice with Mango Curry. To get there, take the woodcarving street (JhongJheng Rd.) into older, downtown Sanyi and turn right onto GuangFu Road at the Circle K (OK) store. Cross under the freeway and continue straight on county highway 130 about a kilometer, stay right at the "Y" intersection, and its just up the road.
