To sample some Japanese champion-grade ramen
noodles, you no longer need to travel all the way to Akasaka
in Japan, as they're available right here at Taichung's Akasaka
La-Man restaurant. The white soup base is slow cooked for
10 hours using pork bones, left to cool to remove excess grease,
and then reheated. This base is then combined with a good
quantity of ramen noodles for 30 different kinds of deliciously
flavored noodles (NT$140-NT$250). Those who enjoy a bit of
spiciness to their noodles should try the Akasaka Cha Shao
Ramen (NT$190) for a taste of spicy but not sour Japanese
pickled vegetables. The NT$230 Champion Noodles contain the
tasty, chewy Golden Egg (which can be ordered separately for
NT$20). These eggs are marinated for about four days for plenty
of flavor. Three large pieces of stewed meat and vegetables
are added to the noodles for a lovely dish. Apart from the
usual miso, soy sauce, curry and tomato flavors, there are
also set menus A, B and C (NT$220) for rice lovers. These
sets include a Cha Shao (roasted meat) Rice combined with
different kinds of ramen noodles. The meal comes in connected
containers, which adds to the fun. The restaurant is often
full during dinner times with customers queuing for a seat.
There is only enough soup base for 300 bowls of noodles, so
be sure to come early for a great tasty bowl of noodles. |
