VISITSR RATINGS & REVIEWS
As local
connoisseurs well know, some of the tastiest, most authentic
Thai cuisine in Taiwan can be found at the tiny eateries that
cater to Thai foreign laborers. Given the fact that Thai chef
at this new restaurant previously worked at one of those establishments,
it's no surprise that the food here is already receiving good
reviews. Fragrant Thai Restaurant--conveniently located within
easy walking distance of TaiZhongGang (Taichung Harbour) and
YingCai (YingTsai) roads and the Science Museum--is a pleasant,
no-frills place that offers a variety of dishes for very reasonable
prices. A variety of northern Thai dishes include the sweet-and-sour
Three-Flavors Egg (NT$100); Golden Shrimp Cakes (NT$150);
the traditional Fermented Beef; Spicy/Sour Raw Prawns; Green
Curry Chicken; and Coconut Curry Beef or Chicken (NT$100),
prepared with imported Panang Curry Paste and coconut milk
for authentic flavors. Also of note is the Thai-Style Sticky
Rice, served in little wicker baskets. A variety of imported
Thai sauces, spices and other ingredients are sold and the
owners are happy to teach guests how to make Thai dishes at
home. There are also Thai beers, Thai whisky (mixed with Thai
soda water), juices, and a Thai music/movie collection that
owners can play for an authentic experience. --By Douglas
