Many,
if not most, local diners are very familiar with Formosa
Steak. However, they may not have heard about the bona
fide, founding restaurant for Formosa Steak--Society. Citizens
of Taichung are now in luck. Under the guidance of founder
Yang Guo-Chu, diners can enjoy what all butchers rave about--the
finest beef ribs, marinated in a secret sauce and grilled
with a special technique. The ribs are juicy and full of
flavor, and are combined with raw garlic, which neutralizes
the oiliness of the ribs. The high quality of food found
here explains Formosa Steak's long history in Taiwan. A
ribs set menu is only NT$890. Another dish worth mentioning
is the set-menu Grilled Beef Short Rib (house specialty),
costing NT$950. There is also the Pork Knuckle with Sauerkraut
set menu for NT$750 and the Wales-style Rack of Lamb set
menu NT$900. There is more than enough here to satisfy
customers for several visits. All the dishes may also be
ordered individually, without the set menu, for those with
smaller stomachs. --By Catherine Liu, Translated by Teresa
