This
new vegetarian eatery, located by the intersection of Tian
Jin and Chung De roads, focuses on a lot more than just
food and drink. As the decor makes obvious, the other main
theme at Chao Sheng Yuan is pottery making. In fact, the
back half of this large building is taken up by a spacious
pottery workshop, complete with a row of pottery wheels
and a kiln. Regular pottery classes in hand-sculpted and
wheel-made pottery, plus painting and glazing, are held
on Saturdays and Sundays and the menu has a Pottery Special
Meal (NT$350/child, NT$400/adult) that combines a lunch
or dinner with open time in the pottery classroom. Quality
pottery works made at the workshop are also on sale. Whether
one likes pottery or not, the restaurant is a good spot
to dine at, with 70 seats in a relaxing, attractive setting.
The menu features a good selection of Eastern and Western
vegetarian dishes, such as Three Cups Tofu (NT$150), Grilled
Vegetarian Steak or Fish (NT$250), Curry Hot Pot (NT$150),
Italian Spaghetti (NT$180) and various vegetarian snacks.
There are also a wide range of hot and iced coffees (made
with an Italian espresso maker) and teas, plus juices and
nine healthy vinegar drinks (NT$80). A NT$99 tea time special
(2-5 p.m.) provides a drink with a dessert.
