If you happen to be a Taichung diners looking for an inexpensive, tasty, casual Thai meal, you might want to try looking behind the baseball stadium on the corner of XiangShang (ShiangShang) and DaDun roads. There, you will find all of the above at a diminutive eatery, suitably named "Too Small Place".

This tiny, four-table restaurant serves up some delicious Thai cuisine that won't empty your wallet in the process. Some of the better dishes include a tangy Cold Beef Salad (NT$90), mixed with onions, tomatoes and marinated in a tangy dressing. The Sweet and Sour Fish with Pineapple, Red and Green Peppers (NT$100) is also a good choice. If it is chicken that you crave, choose from either the green or red curries. Red is a little spicier, while green has a hint of basil and coconut in the sauce. Included in meals is all-you-can-eat, self-serve rice at no extra charge.

This is a very laid-back place and that doesn't put on any airs. Although you may have to go inside and shout upstairs to get your server/owner Jasmine to come and take your order, don't despair. There is only seating for about 20 people maximum. A popular alternative is to phone in and have a lunch waiting for you for take out when you arrive. The chef was trained in Taipei at a notable hotel and his talents are evident in the simple but very satisfying dishes, which range in price from NT$100 to NT$160 each. Drinks include the usual sodas and only one type of beer--Singha, of course. However, if you decide to bring in your own beverages, it's not a problem—all part of the simple pleasures of dining at 'Too Small Place'.
