The very popular Su Bau Cafe now has a nearby twin establishment, Su Bau By The Temple. As the name indicates, this place is a few meters from the old Shinung Temple [CHECK THIS] and is located on a quiet, quaint little alley that the city seems to have forgotten. The new building is a wonderful place, not only larger than the other Su Bau but with infinitely more character. Shaded by a giant, old banyan tree and hanging Chinese lamps, this place has a central air-conditioned area with a large, rustic-looking indoor fountain and lots of space. To the right is a bigger, cavernous place with long tables. The best location, though, is through the side door to the left, where a open-air patio is filled with rattan easy chairs, covered by tree branches. Sitting here, day or night, you can pretend you're out in the country. The menu has all the usual, filling, reasonably-priced Su Bau favorites, from the NT$150 Bolognese Spaghetti to the Mustard Cream Chicken Penne (NT$200), Ravioli Spinach with cream sauce, and BBQ Chicken Sandwich. New main-course additions are more upscale and come with soup, salad, coffee and dessert. These include several steaks in the NT$380 to NT$450 range. There are snacks, from fruit yogurts to fish and chips, and a ton of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including eight NT$100 milk shakes and a wide range of iced coffees (NT$100-150). Coming along Meitsun Road from Taichunggang Road, go through one traffic light and Lane 83 is on the left, opposite the 7-11.
