Opened by the folks who once ran Riverside, Chubby's is already well on its way to becoming a popular dining and drinking destination. This large, comfortable restaurant and bar is located just off of Jing Cheng Road in the building once occupied by Tropics bar, but has been totally redecorated. The decor starts with black-and-white floors and ceilings, with the centers of attraction being the large bar and open-air tables in the outside garden. Major draws include the two projection-screen satellite TVs on the first and second floors with regular live sports broadcasts. Upstairs there is also has a pool table and darts, as well lounge areas with sofas. The bar offers Boddingtons (NT$160) and Carlsberg on tap, bottled beers (NT$120), cocktails (NT$150-180), various spirits and soft drinks. The menu is just as extensive and food can be ordered to 10 p.m. Appetizers include items like Chubby's Hot Wings and a unique Canadian specialty, Perogies--dumplings stuffed with cheddar cheese and mashed potatoes (NT$180). There are also main courses like Grilled Salmon Steaks (NT$390) and Grilled Chicken Breast (NT$240), pastas, flame-grilled burgers and pitas. Other reasons to visit Chubby's include regular live-music and DJ performances, plus weekend lunch hours, expected to start soon. For more information, check www.chubbystaiwan.com
