For delicious and nutritious food, look no further than Taichung Chicken Village. The fowl on this farm roam freely in the wild. The exercise makes the meat firm with little fat, so the health or figure conscious can satisfy their palates without compromising waistlines. Special Herbal Duck (NT$800/whole bird) is double-boiled with ginseng and other special herbs for two hours, allowing the meat to retain its natural juicy flavors. Special herbs used in preparation are supposed to help prevent colds and the flu, and some say that this concoction is also a male aphrodisiac. Due to the long cooking time, diners should order in advance. Another specialty, Herbal Chicken with Deer's Antler (NT$1,500), is prepared from scratch in front of diners. Regular consumption is said to keep the chills away and warm those who suffer from cold hands and feet. Bamboo Shoot Chicken (NT$700) is prepared with only the tip of the shoot, the plant's most tender part. The shoot¡¦s natural sweetness harmonizes with chicken¡¦s natural taste. The restaurant uses only the best bone stock for flavor and taste and no MSG is added, to provide food that is natural, nutritious and tasty. Now, each person who spends $300 at this restaurant is entitled to a revitalizing, healthy herbal spa treatment.
