While Taichung is a city abundant in fresh seafood, residents from the Wu Chi area of Taichung county know how to run a seafood business with heart. Patrons enjoying seafood at New Palace are enjoying one of Wu Chi' s three greatest treasures. This is a cafeteria-style eatery satisfying customers' wildest seafood cravings. Not only is there a large selection of excellent dishes to choose from, but dishes are also very creative. A la carte menu items are just as exquisite. Mexican abalone and long-legged crab (NT$250) are made with Alaskan king crab and Australian abalone. This is seasoned with master chef Chang's specially prepared Japanese-style sauce. This dish is a healthy, non-oily choice and is a favorite among female guests. Smoked Da-Shia crab, specially selected from mainland China' s Yang Chen river, is priced by weight--NT$299 for six "liang", NT$399 for eight, and NT$599 for 10. After you' ve picked your crab of choice, you can give the kitchen cooking instructions, or have the master chef prepare it using the way he finds most appropriate. Lemongrass prawns (NT120) are prepared with French seasonings. Lemongrass is stuffed into the juicy prawns and placed atop a plate of taro and potato. This dish is suitable for the cooling autumn months and is a delectable artistic masterpiece. Cafeteria-style lunches are NT$540, afternoon tea is NT$400 (North district branch) or NT$250 (East district), and dinner is NT$640. There are current 20-percent discounts off all weekday selections, and 10-percent off all weekend selections.
