Taichung's much-beloved deli/restaurant/grocery store, Finga's Fine Foods, has relocated to a much-expanded location not too far away on Chung Ming South Road. Renamed Finga's Base Camp by owner Dereke Bruce, this place offers a totally new environment, with a large, attractive sit-down dining area in front, together with a deli bar and bread selection. In between this area and the grocery store, butchery and bakery in back is a a nice wooden deck with open-air seating. The menu has the same good sandwiches, like turkey and avocado, or salami and mortadello, made with nine types of bread. New additions include Dereke's "Finga's@Home" take-out deli bar offerings of roast beef, chicken, vegetarian fare, salad bar and other items. Now opening at 7 a.m., Finga's also provides breakfast choices, ranging from a quick croissant and coffee to German-style sausage and cheese, or the American scrambled eggs and bacon. Dereke also hopes to add Greek, Turkish, Lebanese and other Mediterranean fare soon.--By Douglas Habecker
