Many will remember
the Red Onion and its owner Jack Kao from its previous location
behind The Landis Hotel. Jack has returned with a bigger,
more attractive and more impressive restaurant, situated in what
until recently was Spaghettini Republic. The new restaurant
is a very pleasant, comfortable place with a nice upstairs area,
complete with soft lighting, wooden floors, stucco walls and a salad
bar. The menu offers a good selection of tasty very reasonably-priced
pasta and risotto dishes (NT$180-220), plus desserts and appetizers.
The salad bar--including soup and drinks--is usually NT$90 alone
and an extra NT$45 with any dish, but is free with other courses
through January 15. There are NT$100 beers, lots of milk shakes,
daiquiris and other drinks as well. Red Onion is located within
meters of the Kung Yi and Ching Cheng road intersection.
