Mineral makeup: An skin-friendly alternative

Mineral makeup has been trendy for a while in the United States and now is gaining followers in Taiwan. This alternative to standard makeups consists of lepidolite mica and talc refined into a makeup powder, with other possible makeup kit materials including zinc oxide, iron oxide and aluminum hydroxide.

Although any products with added mineral content can generally be classified as mineral makeup, pure mineral varieties do not contain any grease, water or alcohol content. The pure, dry mineral powder doesn't put any added burden on the skin, in contrast to commonly-used makeup products, whose harmful additives include preservatives, perfumes, pigments and surfactants. It is recommended that you check product labels before applying these onto your skin. Pure mineral makeups are also effective and practical because they are easily removed, being washed away by massaging your face with a facial cleanser and lukewarm water.

In addition, a number of chemical ingredients added to standard makeup products can have a negative impact on the natural environment and cause health problems. Switching to pure mineral makeups reduces harmful additives and, as Livy from Rachel Wine Cosmetic Shop noted, are a safer alternative even more important for individuals who have had cosmetic surgery, are pregnant, or have sensitive skin.
