Formerly known as the Taichung Chinatrust Hotel, Maison De Chine's new name not only reflects a change in ownership (now of the L'Hotel de Chine Group that includes the Taipei Palais De Chine and Sun Moon Lake Fleur De Chine resort) but also a significant upgrade and expansion that puts it among Taichung's finest guest residences. Most significant is Maison De Chine's attractive, brand-new second building, officially opening in September. This 15-floor structure adds 124 new rooms to the older building's 100 rooms and includes banquet/wedding halls accomodating up to 36 tables (or other non-dining functions), the second-floor Taste Western-style buffet restaurant, first-floor Ping lounge-style lobby bar, and top-floor swimming pool and fitness center. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Andy Tsao
A. Maison De Chine offers seven room types. The pictured Classic Standard Room, usually NT$5,000 (plus 10%) per night, has a NT$2,999 net September opening discount (add NT$600 on weekends) that includes two breakfasts, two lobby bar drink coupons and giveaway souvenir soap. There are similar specials on the other rooms, which include the Deluxe Family Studio (NT$4,399 net weekdays) and range up to the 100-ping Maison De Chine Suite--which the hotel claims is the largest presidential-style suite in Taichung.
B. The Western-style Taste restaurant's sizable buffet is currently open daily for breakfast, lunch and afternoon teatime. Its Chinese counterpart, Jing Jao Hsuan, is located in the older building and offers a la carte and set lunches and dinners. Ping lounge bar is also open from 4 pm to midnight (1 a.m. weekends).
C. The hotel's new building, adjacent to its older one, is modern, luxurious structure that takes Maison De Chine into five-star territory.
