Arguably the best-known Chinese language school in Kaohsiung, T.L.I. (Taipei Language Institute) has helped countless visitors to the city improve their understanding of the language - and life in Taiwan. They also provide student visas to those who come here to study, currently done through an academic co-operation with Kainan University (KNU) Chinese Learning Center, where all T.L.I. courses and materials are adopted. T.L.I. is planning to open another branch in the TsouYing area, but that is not the biggest news. T.L.I. will now be offering special Study Cards, where new or existing students can buy pre-paid cards for a set amount of lessons. These 10- (NT$5,000), 25- (NT$11,000) or 50-hour (NT$25,000) passes can be redeemed at any time, so you need never miss a class you have already paid for. Call as little as an hour ahead, and any of the available teachers can continue the course with you. If you use up your card before the term indicated on the back, you will save 10% on the next card (of equal or lesser value). The cards make for great presents and the more hours you buy, the more you will save. Contact T.L.I. for more details. --By Pieter Vorster, translated by Annie Liu
