In Spanish, 'El Rincon Latino' means 'the Latin corner'; here in Kaohsiung it also means great, authentic South American cuisine. This open-air eatery, which has been round for 10 years, sets the mood with Latin music playing in the background. Originally from Uruguay, Maria, the owner, has lived in Taiwan for 24 years. Friendly and passionate about her food, Maria is glad to share a broad range of dishes with her customers. The popular Latin Meal (NT$75) consists of a large piece of breaded pork, rice with tomato sauce, fries and salad. The rich Cream Cheese Macaroni (NT$100) is another must-try. Rice with Argentinean Sausage (NT$80), a Montevideo favorite, is a non-sweet sausage alternative. Rincon Latino is located beside the I-Gwo grocery store, a block west of ChengChing on YangMing Road. --By Sean Cooper, translated by Ann Lee, photos by Colin Brown
