Seeking solace from the hustle and bustle
of downtown Kaohsiung? Longing for an outdoor bar and
eatery where hundreds of pesky scooters aren't rushing
by? If the aforementioned apply, then why not head over
to ChengCing Lake, to The Casbah. Where the former Lake
Tavern sat is where you will now find The Casbah, which
is now run by new owners Eric Birckhead and Ann Chun.
Though a menu and some renovations are still in the
works, one established certainty is the quality of the
food here. Patrons will surely savor the baked Nacho
Plate (NT$200), with its made-fresh-daily salsa, and
the equally tasty Green Pepper Beef with Rice (NT$150,
or NT$200 with cheese). A Burger with Parmesan-coated
Fries (NT$150) will also please picky palates. And,
if you buy the burger, you'll receive a Foster's draught
for a mere NT$50. To further entice you is their VIP
card which enables you to enjoy 12 draughts for NT$1,000,
while regular tap beers cost NT$100 each. Treating yourself
to a meal at The Casbah, with its tranquil setting,
could offer the respite you long for. --By Michael Brown
