With the dramatic growth of housing
complexes in the GuShan district over the last few years,
new restaurants and bars are sprouting up in the area.
Chimney Bar and Grill, not far from BoAi and Minghua
Roads, has done just that. Upon walking into Chimney,
it is evident that the affable proprietor, Joy, sees
customer service as the key to success for her new establishment.
Joy, who is also part owner of the long-standing Stormy
Weather Pub on WuFu Road, is quick to start up a friendly
conversation in either English or Chinese, and her wait
staff is also eager to please. Recommended by the staff
are the Cheese Steak Sandwich and the Thai Spicy Sour
Seafood Spaghetti, both for NT$200. And the Guinness
Stout on tap is a hard-to-find-in-Kaohsiung treat (NT$160).
A rich variety of music, comfortably casual interior,
free billiards, and an extensive menu, all combine with
the friendly service to make Chimney a welcome addition
to the neighborhood. --By Michael Brown and Pei Ling
