Tongdaemum Restaurant is a do-it-yourself,
all-you-can-eat, Korean-style BBQ. For under NT$500
per person (discounts if you're under 140 centimetres
tall) you are set loose in front of a glowing furnace
of hot coals to gorge for two hours on a large selection
of barbequed meats, seafood, hot pots and kimchi. The
restaurant is spacious (to say the least) and has special
rooms in the back that cater to larger parties (the
larger tables featuring several built-in grills). This
writer made the mistake of going alone and thus bore
the sole responsibility of finishing off multiple plates.
Fortunately the restaurant sells Korean soju (a Korean
rice wine, NT$200), which is a traditional Korean digestion
aid. The large, open restaurant and colourful Korean
decorations on the wall (complete with gowns, puppets
and pictures of traditional dancers) is eye-catching
and stylish. The staff is polite, friendly and eager
to help. Regulations require FYI South to remind you
not to drink and drive.
