With a view of Carrefour across the Love River,
Mr. and Mrs. Tsai of MeGao Rice Shop carry on a culinary tradition
started in 1957 by Mr. Tsai's grandfather. Although the place
operates behind a relatively ordinary facade, the highly popular
'MeGao' they serve amply makes up for any dearth in aesthetics.
Their 'MeGao' (NT$30), a savory sticky rice dish in a rich
sauce with pork, is created in a labor-intensive four-hour
process. At the roadside stand that serves as a counter for
ordering and paying, one can select from overhead photos of
their various dishes, which are all made from scratch on the
premises. The Steamed Egg with Mushrooms and Pork (NT$25)
and Fried Pork Rib in Soup (NT$25) are rightly in demand.
Because regular customers come from all walks of life, and
have for many years, it is evident that this places serves
great food. |
