Even though import stores are scarce in Kaohsiung,
it's comforting to know that there is a place like Tung Hai
Foods Store to purchase hard-to-find products, like blueberry
pie filling and Tang drink mix. Tung Hai Foods Shop is the
oldest import store in Kaohsiung-it was started over 50 years
ago! According to the owner, about 90% of their customers
are foreigners. Located nearby the Love River, the store is
easy to find. Many products that are non-existent in a typical
grocery store can be found here at reasonable prices. If you're
in the mood for Mexican food, you can purchase refried beans,
taco shells and sour cream, all at the same time! Those with
a sweet tooth might enjoy a variety of pie fillings, cake
mixes or even Jello. If you don't cook much, try the Indian
mixes. They're simple, delicious and a nice break from fast
food. Condiments like pickles, salad dressing and spices can
also be purchased here, along with a few German foods. One
of the most popular items is the salami from Spain (NT$210),
along with a good selection of cheeses (NT$65/100 grams). |
