Even if you are neither Buddhist nor vegetarian,
you would be missing out if you didn't sample some of the
culinary wonders of vegetarian restaurants in southern Taiwan.
More often than not, the rich flavours and tastes they offer
are as good, if not better, than meat products. Kaohsiung's
newest addition to this category is the Su Shi Xiang Noodle
Shop, which serves inexpensive vegetarian meals. Their most
popular item must be their vegetarian beef noodle soup (NT$60),
but they also have imitation deep-fried fish served with rice
and vegetables (NT$60), simple hui fan dishes (rice topped
with a rich sauce), wonton soup, tofu and veggie appetizers
too numerous to mention. Everything is prepared fresh daily
on the premises. The restaurant is clean, air-conditioned
and relaxing (there is no TV, just soothing music). This family
business is operated by Mr. Luo, his wife and his sister,
and is a welcome addition to the SanMin District. |
