What is better than having authentic Taiwanese
food? Cooking it yourself! For those who enjoy good, healthy
food, without the layer of grease (the so-called 'essence'
of road-side vendors), this might just be your choice of Chinese
'fast food'. Indulge yourself in the freshly-made Chinese
dumplings at the DaJong Dumplings vendor located at the hygienic
SanMin Traditional Market. At NT$2 per dumpling, these flour-wrapped,
bite-size treats come with a pork filling and a choice of
either cabbage or leek. The friendly owner makes them on the
spot and packs them in polystyrene boxes for easy storage
in the freezer. When you're ready, simply take them out of
the freezer (do not defrost!) and lower them into a big pot
of boiling water. When it boils, wait another minute before
adding a cup of tap water and bring it to the boil again.
Repeat this once more before the dumplings are ready. These
scrumptious dumplings are convenient as a meal or a light
snack and taste great with soy sauce or simply on their own!
