Cup Cafe on JhongSing Street paved the way
for the recent coffee craze in Kaohsiung. Twelve years after
their start, the second Cup Cafe has opened near the Shoushan
Zoo, with a slightly different menu and a new look. Although
the original Cup Cafe showcases hundreds of tea and coffee
cups on the walls, the new Cup Cafe on the mountain is simpler
in design and most of the seating is outside. The second Cup
Cafe carries more Japanese foods and drinks. Their "house
special" is a sushi plate that is as creative as it is
tasty (NT$180). All the coffees and drinks are fairly priced,
from NT$45 - NT$55 (try the Pound Tea Latte). Set meals are
also offered, starting at NT$120. Japanese Meiji ice cream
is available for NT$35, along with green tea and red bean
sorbets (NT$50). The employees are polite and helpful, and
the owner is a vivacious young lady who has a passion for
collecting unique "name brand" coffee cups. Although
the original Cup Cafe is the place to go for a quaint "cafe"
experience, the new Cup Cafe is a great place to stop for
refreshment after a long hike or day at the zoo.
