Tokyo City on JhongShan 2nd Road has recently
undergone a facelift. Although there are 3 other outlets in
Kaohsiung, this one has the most extensive menu and the newest
interior. As you'd expect, Tokyo City is famous for its Japanese
food, but it also serves a wide variety of quality Chinese
and other ethnic foods. The restaurant chain is quite well
established in the city and many regular customers have been
enjoying the fresh seafood and unique dishes for years.
Peter, the manager of the new restaurant,
hopes that it will attract customers who enjoy a classy dining
experience at reasonable prices. Previously Tokyo City offered
buffet-style dining, but the buffet is no longer available.
Instead, patrons can choose from all kinds of dishes, with
something for everyone! Sashimi, hot pot, BBQ skewers, creative
vegetable dishes and all kinds of seafood are on the menu.
Plan to spend at least NT$300 per person and more if you order
the specialty items and drinks. A large selection of alcohol
is available at reasonable prices.
The fried shrimp and pineapple dish (NT$250)
and the bacon-wrapped mushroom skewers (NT$40) come recommended.
Even if you are not a fan of bacon, these are melt-in-your-mouth
delicious and worth every calorie! Other recommended dishes
include spare ribs in tangerine sauce ($180) and tofu in pumpkin
sauce (NT$130). The most popular dish is the fish mandible
(NT$100), which is basically the lower jaw of a fish.
The first floor of the restaurant seats up
to 150 people and the second floor will be open soon, so there's
plenty of room for large parties. An English menu is available,
along with several English-speaking employees. Only a 5-minute
walk from SOGO department store, Tokyo City is in a prime
location. And since it's open late, you can devour the bacon-wrapped
mushroom skewers into the wee hours of the morning.
