A name that stands out amongst
the recent additions to Kaohsiung's nightlife scene is Gin-Hi-Tan
International Music Show Restaurant. The name Gin-Hi-Tan,
means "Golden Beach", and although there is no beach
in sight, after midnight the exotic dancers might make you
believe you were basking on the sands. Even if the late shows
for adults don't fall within your taste, Gin-Hi-Tan has a
lot more to offer.
Located on the first floor at 165, JhongJheng 2nd Road, this
stylish nightclub features excellent sound, great lighting
and live bands from 9 to 12 every night of the week. The menu
has a variety of traditional Taiwanese dishes served with
a smile and a surety of full flavour and fresh spices. Dishes
such as deep fried fish cheeks, basil cheese omelets or chicken
cutlets all please the palate and are served up quickly by
the courteous staff. (Prices range from NT$150 to NT$200.)
There is a NT$300 cover charge Sunday to Thursday, increasing
to NT$500 on Fridays and Saturdays. This includes a free drink,
eye candy and a rocking soft chair. Cocktails are served up
strong and range in price from NT$180 for a mixed drink to
this writer's personal favorite - the "Around the World"
NT$500 cocktail, which will definitely cause a lift. This
drink is comprised of almost everything in the bar and is
a guaranteed knock-you-off-your-feet. Pitchers of beer are
modestly priced at NT$500.
Gin-Hi-Tan International Music Restaurant may not be for everyone,
but they do dispel the myth that all clubs featuring exotic
dancers are necessarily seedy. This stylish club is selective
about who enters and ensures privacy and discretion to their
patrons. One would be well advised not to arrive in shorts
and sneakers or with mischief in mind.
