Cosby Saloon II has built on the success of
the original Cosby, near Tainan's train station, and makes
the most of spacious premises and a prime location across
the road from the Tayih Landis Hotel. Generous portions are
served here; the quality is high and amazingly consistent.
To call this "pub grub" would be unfair--it is in
fact some of the best Western food in South Taiwan.
The menu is chockfull of North American and European favorites,
but also features some Taiwanese dishes. According to bar
manager Fish, the steaks (on the menu called Old Texas Randy's
Beefsteak, priced NT$350 to NT$500), burgers (sirloin or fish,
both priced NT$200), Beef Gumbo Soup (NT$180), and spaghetti
(NT$200) are perennial favorites. Recent additions to the
menu include Chicken Sandwich (NT$180), Baked Bulgogi (NT$230),
and Garlic Porkchop (NT$350).
Cosby II attracts roughly equal numbers of local and foreign
customers, and Fish says that about 70 percent of the people
who come in order food. Her own favorite dish is the Grill
Fish & Salad (NT$280).
If a complete meal is too much for you--when ordering, remember
that the portions here are big--consider some of the snacks,
which are priced from NT$60, and include popcorn, French Fries,
spring rolls, and several other choices. Also, Cosby II will
this month announce a new set of lunch specials, with most
dishes costing around NT$150.
Sit at the bar, sit at a table. Watch live sports on TV, or
sing karaoke in the basement. But whatever you do at Cosby
II, don't leave without trying some of the food!
