The world's first female poet, Sappho, appeared in ancient Greece 2,500 years ago. To this day, her poems continue to fascinate readers. Her name has also now appeared on a corner in Taipei as the name of a lounge bar. Sappho is neither big nor small, with eye-catching beehive-style LED floor lighting. The small moon-shaped sofas and small round tables can be moved according to guests' numbers and requirements. If you go to Sappho, be sure and try their cocktails. Female bartender Juvena has 12 years of experience behind the bar. Most of the 60 cocktails on the menu are specially designed. The Spicy Chicken Wings with Sour Cream (NT$180) are also really spicy and pack a punch. Jazz bands perform every Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is DJ Night with Dutch DJ Stin, who has a special liking for Indian and African music, which he adds to his mixes to create the special atmosphere unique to Sappho. Given the fact that Sappho was also the earliest known lesbian, the bar is planning to hold special parties for lesbians in the near future. It doesn't matter what your sexual orientation is, though, as Sappho is a place where you can let down your hair and have a great time.
