On a weekday evening I walked into Louis XIV and, surprisingly, it was almost a full house. I looked at the time and realized that it wasn't even six o'clock yet. I couldn't help but wonder, "Isn't it a bit too early for dinner?" Then the regular patrons explained to me that it was better to come early before all the goodies were sold out for the day.

Each visit to Louis XIV is like a whole new experience. Chef Phoebe Wang constantly strives to present brilliant, French-inspired creations. The most popular dish of the week can be easily replaced by the newest creations next week. For gourmet food lovers, sometimes the best creations that Chef Phoebe has to offer are off the menu, so start buddying up to her!

Phoebe is reputed to be the "Queen of Sauces". Her Aioli sauce goes perfectly with Scandinavian spiral shells and Australian prawns in the Parisian Seafood Platter (NT$1,800-3,200, depending on oysters). If you consider yourself an oyster fanatic, then you should try Special Gillardeau oysters from France. That way you'll end up with one less regret in life. You can eat them fresh or add a few drops of red wine vinegar to spice up the taste and texture. I recommend that everyone should have at least one Special Gillardeau oyster in his or her lifetime; delicacies like this make life worth living.

There have been more than 20 different desserts featured in Louis XIV over the years, but Tiramisu (NT$380) has always been the favorite. The secret recipe is so guarded that Phoebe doesn't even allow anyone else to make it. If she's out of town, it doesn't get made and it's temporarily unavailable. If you're lucky enough to get some of this dessert, don't share it with anyone! Make sure you get one per person, otherwise you'll be fighting with your friends over each bite.

As Louis XIV celebrates its 12th anniversary in August, patrons can enjoy a 20% discount during the week and 15% off on the weekends. If you call in advance to make reservations, you'll receive a complimentary bottle of Green Point Brut Rose! Louis XIV knows how much their customers appreciate French fine wine and recently collaborated with prestigious importer Best Spirits to import top-of-the-line French Burgundy, so customers here can savor a complete French dining experience.
