Sanjusangendo Restaurant, located
near Ximending, offers mid-price Japanese cuisine.
One special characteristic, the owner explains,
is that some of the "beauty and charm" of
the owner has rubbed off on the dishes. And, in
watching the boss instruct the staff on how to
prepare and serve the food and seeing how the customers
talk about the atmosphere, you can see that the
owner has her own definition of the words "beauty
and charm."
It is easy to see why people say that Sanjusangendo
has provided almost 20 years of unforgettable food
and service. Everyone in the restaurant calls the
owner "Lao Da," or "boss," because
everything, from food preparation to carrying the
food to customers' tables, must meet her approval.
The owner has also decided that there is to be
no printed menu; the dishes offered at this establishment
are those she has arranged for the day. However,
there are choices. Before ordering, the staff will
inform you what is available, and you can eat as
much as you can pay for. Customers usually spend
around NT$1,000 per person.
The absence of a printed menu simplifies the ordering
procedure, regulars say. First-timers are advised
to try the sashimi plate, which includes different
types of seafood, such as shrimp and scallops.
These are meticulously arranged by the chef to
provide not only a rich eating experience, but
also a visual feast. Other dishes popular with
frequent customers include King Crab Hotpot and
Crab Legs.
This is indeed a festive and interesting restaurant--some
colorful and bold statements come out of the owner's
mouth! You cannot but admire her attention to detail;
the whole experience is unforgettable. If you are
