Jelly Fig Dream in Divine Grass may be small and simple, but it has customers lining up on the weekends and holidays for its authentic Taiwanese desserts--mesona (divine grass) and jelly fig. The owner makes everything himself. The mesona differs from those of other shops', known as mesona ice; here, it is called Mesona Cream Ice (NT$40), made from homemade mesona with a special syrup and coffee cream for a light, creamy, sweet taste. Another feature is Jelly Fig Lemon Ice (NT$40), a refreshing summer dessert made from Alishan wild jelly fig. There are also taro dumplings, peanuts, lotus seeds, and pearl barley--all the necessary ingredients in shaved ice. Shaved ice is NT$40 and hot desserts are NT$45. --By Selena Huang, translated by Yvonne Chen.
