La Giara is Taipei's newest addition to the growing number
of Italian-run local Italian restaurants. Opened by the Sicilian
team of Salvatore Genco and master chef Antonio Gerbino, La
Giara is a classy, upscale destination targeted at Taiwan's
foreign and local high society crowd. Decorated with the "modern
design aesthetic that is currently in vogue with Italian high
society", the atmosphere is warm, woody and hip. Two
walls are huge, wooden wine racks, which are quickly being
filled with a wide range of imported wines, ranging from NT$900
to NT$4,000 a bottle. Naturally, the food is the focus of
any good restaurant and on this count Chef Antonio aims to
please, using imported spices and fresh, healthy ingredients.
Pasta dishes range from NT$380 to NT$470 and the pizzas run
from NT$380 to NT$450. La Giara is located one block south
of the Howard Plaza hotel on FuXing South Road.--By Donovan
