La
Vie en Rose- La Mome
Drama/ Music
Those who are familiar with the French music and pop
culture must have heard the song "La Vie en Rose",
which was written and sung by the famous French diva
Edith Piaf. Now, director Olivier Dahan of "Crimson
Rivers 2: Angels of Apocalypse" has created a great,
popular film that narrates Piaf's rugged, tragic life.
Piaf
was born and raised in a slums of Paris and suffered
plenty of unfavorable turns in life. However, God gave
her a magnificent voice for singing and it was through
singing that she found happiness and supported herself.
Piaf's talent was discovered and she became well-known
by a bistro owner in 1935. Her beautiful voice interpreted
songs like "La Vie en Rose," "Milord",
"Hymne L' Amour" and those songs were soon
on everybody's lips. She became a big star, and the
most popular singer all over France. What came with
fame was a considerable amount of pressure. Edith also
had an intricate love life, which left her mentally
and physically spent.
In
this movie, director Oliver Dahan focuses on portraying
Piaf's inner world as well as the contradictions of
her character to the film's audience. In this way, they
can experience what Piaf's life was like in reality,
away from the stage. Actress Marion Cotillard, who also
starred in the movie, "A Good Year", plays
the main character and her true-to-life performance
has won praise at the 2006 Berlin Film Festival.
