As a stage magician, Eisenheim (Edward Norton) meets childhood sweetheart Sophie von Teschen (Jessica Biel) who is to be married to the Crown Prince in turn-of-the-century Vienna. As romance is rekindled, Eisenheim's enemy (Paul Giamatti) is a cop in charge of discovering Eisenheim's real identity. Against all odds, the magician is determined to fight back for Sophie and vows to destroy the Viennese empire.
