The story is about a depressed ex-CIA agent John Creasy (Washington) who accepts the job his good friend Reyburn (Walken) found for him in Mexico: as a bodyguard for Pita Balletto (Fanning), a nine-year girl from a wealthy family. After the innocent Pita raises John's spirits, abduct kidnap Pita and critically wound John in the process. John recovers and vows to make the kidnappers pay!
