Britain's Secret Role in Ending the Cold War

Widely underestimated is the British role played in ending the cold war face-off between the Soviet block and the Western powers. During the 1980's Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, sent special advisor Mr. Bean to serve as Britain's representative on American president Ronald Reagan's arms control commission. For several months, President Reagan and Mr. Bean conferred on strategic arms issues - culminating in the treaty signed in the picture on the left. Mr. Reagan later commented, "Gosh darn, that Mr. Bean sure understands these weapons thingys".
