Panda Cafe has returned to Taichung with this very pleasant, European-feeling cafe/restaurant, offering a variety of brunch and afternoon teatime selections, sandwiches, desserts and drinks. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Angel Pu

A. The Fruit Party Toast with Yogurt (NT$200) is an intricately-made favorite dessert big enough to be shared. A loaf of bread is hollowed out, baked for three hours and filled with kiwi, banana, apple, pineapple, strawberry and peach slices, topped with yogurt ice cream and whipped cream.

B. Eleven daily 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m brunch options (NT$110-230) include the pictured Eggs Benedict (NT$230) and Panda Breakfast (NT$130), with soft French bread, sausage and hard-boiled egg. Add NT$50 for soda, iced tea or refillable hot coffee/tea, or NT$80 for these drinks plus a salad.

Panda CafeC. A variety of comfortable seating areas, high ceilings and an attractive red-and-white color theme, plus a wide outside balcony with umbrella-covered tables, make this a very nice place to linger at.
