STARBUCKS COFFEE (DaYing Store)

131, GongYi Rd, Sec 2
Hours: 7 am-10:30 pm

Although this is the 18th Starbucks Coffee branch in Taichung city, the company made a special effort to celebrate its opening as the 200th Taiwan outlet since Starbucks arrived on island in March, 1998. The 100-ping, 96-seat, stand-alone branch is an attractive building on GongYi Road, just down the road from the Dadun intersection. The trademark Starbucks interior features subdued earth tones, comfortable sofas and cozy corners. However, the most striking feature at this branch is the arbor-like wooden outdoor deck with umbrella-shaded tables, and the open-air balcony area that runs down the side of the building with cushioned, wicker-style furniture. Inside or outside, Wi-Fi is available. In addition to the standard beverages, customers can try specially-promoted items like Starbucks' Tazo brand teas and the Red Bean Frappuccino. Food items (NT$55-80) include Chicken Tortillas, Smoked Chicken Panini, Espresso Brownies, and Gouda Cheese Cake. The store also has plenty of products for retail, from Taichung coffee holders and Starbucks beans to the latest Paul McCartney hit CD "Memory Almost Full" (released by Starbucks). --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
