This
cute-looking, mustard-colored cheesecake shop, decorated
with its trademark dreamy drawings of flowers and people,
is the first Taichung branch opened by Taipei bakery and
cookbook writer Rebecca Lu, originally known for her California
Cheesecake venture up north. Not surprisingly, Sugar Star's
cheesecakes stand out from the crowd, with their exquisite
flavors and texture. The management also stresses that their
cakes use only one-third of the sugar of most cakes, making
them more healthy and not overwhelmingly-sweet. There are
a number of six-inch cheesecake varieties available here,
including the Marble Mocha (NT$320), Raspberry, Chestnut
(NT$380), Pear, Apricot (NT$400) and plain (NT$260). For
something a little different, there is are the nicely-wrapped
Cheesecake Sticks (NT$39 each) and the NT$45 Mini Yogurt
Cheesecakes, which come in square tins and have more of a
pudding-like texture. Although the shop focuses on take-out
and does not sell drinks, there are a couple tables for those
who want to linger. Delivery is also available for orders
of 10 or more cakes. Sugar Star is located directly opposite
the Spool Restaurant, between Dadun and WenXin(Wen Shin)
roads. |
