The
calligraphy sign above the door of this teahouse is what first attracted
my attention and probably had something to do with my visit to the
Taiwan Museum of Art earlier in the day.
Outside the
entrance are tables with large cream-colored sun umbrellas, giving
a relaxed casual feeling which is carried over into the teahouse's
interior. The decor inside is simple with ceiling-to-floor windows
that look out onto a tree-shaded area. On one wall are black and
white photos of lotus-filled ponds. And, the bar area is done up
in dark wood. Clearly, this is a very friendly open place, where
you can feel comfortable coming alone or with a group of friends.
In addition
to the types of tea found in most teahouses, Ho Tuo Cha Juan offers
'health teas' and 'flower and fruit teas' (NT$80 to NT$120).
According to the manager, Tsai Chih-chang, the ingredients used
for making the teas have been "specially selected".
No flavored tea bags are used.
Food choices
include set meals ranging in price from NT$120 to NT$130. Kimchee--spicy
pickled cabbage--hot pot (NT$130), herbal chicken soup (NT$130)
and mini hot pot (NT$160) are also available. The manager
also recommends the taro root cake and buffalo wings if you are
just looking for a snack (NT$40 to NT$50).
This
is one teahouse where you won't need to spend a lot of money to
enjoy quality leisure time.
