Corner was the first coffee shop to open in Tung Hai Pieh Shu (villas),
a thriving shopping and entertainment area above Tunghai University.
The unusual name comes from its location, on the corner of Shin
Shing Road and Tung Yuan Lane.
The décor of Corner is very unique. For example, you might
find that you are sitting at an antique sewing table with seats
made from cart wheels. The food can also be unique. The manager
of this coffee shop is from a tea-growing family, so tea leaves
make up the ingredients of some of the food dishes, such as the
oolong chicken (NT$200).
The manager recommends the specially roasted chicken (NT250).
Its unique flavor comes from a number of ingredients, such as rosemary,
basil, and various kinds of fruit. The chicken is roasted
twice, to allow the spices to penetrate the meat. Other food
selections include roasted eel (imported from Japan) and beef (imported
from New Zealand).
If you are looking for a snack or dessert, there are waffles and
carved sandwiches (from NT$40). The tuna sandwich is especially
good. The coffee, brewed in house, is rich in flavor and guaranteed
to satisfy even hard-core coffee drinkers. For the nighttime
crowd, there are a number of cocktails available.
In this coffee shop, almost every knick-knack and even items on
the menu have a story and history that await your discovery.
Who knows? Maybe you'll take a story away with you. At the
very least, Corner's unique but comfortable atmosphere is an enjoyable
experience.
