Taichung's biggest
and best-known traditional Chinese teahouse chain continues its
inexorable march forward with the opening of its latest, and biggest,
outlet, located on the canal road not far from Wenhsin Road, section
3. In keeping with the attributes that makes Ken Tu Yuan so
popular, there are fish ponds, waterfalls, bridges, passage ways
and quaint little tea rooms and pavilions, perfect for enjoying
traditional oolong and other hot teas (sorry, no pearl milk iced
tea here). There are also several set lunch and dinner meals
(available 12-2 p.m., 6-8 p.m.) costing about NT$250, with options
of chicken, beef, goose, vegetarian and other main courses, plus
side dishes, soup, fruit and tea. Although surrounded by buildings,
Ken Tu Yuan once again manages to provide a peaceful oasis in the
heart of the city.
