Bai Zuan Antique Furniture
3-6, XieHe N Lane, Xitun Dist
Mainland Chinese restrictions on the export of antiques over 100 years old seem to have significantly curtailed the Taiwan trade in antique furniture in recent years. However, much of the furniture on sale at this cavernous showroom was personally collected by the owners prior to restrictions, meaning that some of the finds here are extremely rare and, although prices aren't cheap by any standard, there is significant room to negotiate. Besides genuine antiques--almost all late-Qing dynasty period--replica antique items are also available. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by S. Ying
Large antique carved screens are also available.
This late-Qing dynasty bed is striking for its carved, tiered canopy, symbolizing the rank of the imperial officer which owned it. This and other beds sold here are known as "qian gong" (thousand-labor) beds exquisitely hand made and carved in the Ningbo area of Zhejiang province.
Despite the no-frills appearance of the warehouse, its contents include Chinese antique and reproduction beds, cabinets, tables, chairs and other decorative items.
