It is actually not surprising that bicycling is so popular in Taichung, as central Taiwan has long been a well-known bike-production hub. U.K. native James Murray and his Taiwanese wife were running an export bicycle manufacturing business when they realized the biking-development possibilities in Taichung's Dakeng Scenic Area. This led them to open a bike boutique store, Warehouse 185, opposite the Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
In this store, you'll see displays with basic mountain bikes, continuing on to a variety of other mountain bikes, road racing bikes and ladies' bikes. Furthermore, bicycle accessories like frames, rims, gear sets and bike saddles (seats) are all available. The second floor, accessed via a spiral staircase, features many other world-renowned products, including some very impressive custom, handmade items.
185cafe, located next to the bike store, sells drinks and snacks like Con Panna (NT$80) and various sandwiches (NT$139-189). Behind the counter, a blackboard notes daily special meals offered by the owner's wife. If you head up to the fifth floor by elevator, there is also a beautiful, enjoyable garden for you to dine and relax in.
