In 2001, American Idol's Simon Cowell decided to create a multinational music group which combined pop and opera vocal techniques into "Popera", injecting new elements and trends into the contemporary music world. For two years, Cowell searched around the world for young singers willing to join him in the IL DIVO project, setting out to challenge traditional musical genres such as pop, classical and opera. "IL Divo", incidentally, is the Italian term for pure-voiced vocalists or male opera singers.
Four Distinct Vocal Elements
This music group has four distinct vocal elements: American tenor David Miller, who graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music with degrees in Vocal Performance and Opera Theatre; French pop singer Sebastien Izambard, who has produced several albums and participated in several musical events prior to IL DIVO; Swiss tenor Urs Buhler, who spent the last seven years singing oratorios and performing with the Netherlands Operaa Gezelschaps (NOG) in Holland; and Spanish baritone Carlos Marin, who studied and performed with the world-famous soprano Montserrat Caballe.
IL DIVO will be holding their only Taiwan concert in Taichung. Time/Venue: Sep. 24 (Thu), 8 pm at Taichung Fulfillment Amphitheater. For tickets contact MNA: www.mna.com.tw (02) 6636-9168 or ERA Ticketing System: http://www.ticket.com.tw/
