The
Golden Era
Designers
are totally enamored with Hollywood's
golden era (the '20s to the '50s) referencing
every lady from Audrey Hepburn to Marilyn
Monroe.
New
femininity's Alexander McQueen caused
yet another stir when his show turned
into a 1930's "Depression inspired
ballet". Models danced around in
1930's-style suits, satin dresses and
tweed corsets made from a mixture of
his grandmother's lace and grandfather's
tweed suits, and ballet skirts made from "ghost-like" meshes
and gauzy fabrics. Meanwhile, Prada and
Mui Mui were having a '50s moment with
very chic interpretations of elegance:
from dresses with well-defined bodices,
tightly clenched with waists and full
skirts that bellow, worn with a wide
range of tops ranging from the sexy corsets
and Camis tops--to more sophisticated
fitted shirts and classic man-style V
necks, sweaters and cardigans. (Remember
to wear a belt on the waist for a fresh
feminine look!) The day dresses are all
smart and sophisticated, mostly following
very simple lines (the fit and flare
dress, the shirt dress, the tube).
Cardigans:
An absolute must, traditionally shown
with skirts but, for the more daring,
with trousers. The cardi may be worn
snug fitting, embroidered, tie dyed,
sheer or plain.
The
Rebel: For a more sassy take on this
nostalgic trend, D-Squared showed that
there's nothing like a dame, especially
if she looks like a sexy Marlon Brando
or James Dean inspired rebel in sassy
pedal pushers or techno stretch cigarette
pants, high heels, sporty graphic or
plain tank tops, biker-style leather
jackets, corsets, leather baby doll tops,
vests, peak caps and leather neck bands.
Also don't forget the classic jean jacket.
To be more playful, try the Texan cowboy-inspired
fringed jackets, buckle belts and very
worn-out jeans teamed with the classic
T-shirt or lingerie-inspired tops.
The
Holiday Look: If that's not enough, try
Versace's optimistic Hawaiian brights in
50's-inspired pedal pushers and slender
cigarette pants, mixed with bright co-bred
hatter tops, sexy tubes and cropped jackets.
Don't forget to accessorize with chunky
gold jewelry and thick black bands for
the complete glam queen feel.
Have
fun playing and look out for Part 3 next
