This striking new bar and grill makes an immediate impression with its attractive decor and setting. Converted from a house along a quiet residential lane just off of JingCheng Road, Uzo features a very nice outdoor bar, surrounded by tree-shaded courtyard with tables. The white Greek-style building contains a warm, inviting interior filled with more seating. Long-time Taichung residents and co-owners Ken Mann and Ramin Fouladpour go through great lengths to make this the perfect hang-out for Taichung's mostly-balmy evenings, complete with a good drink selection, a small but tasty food menu, and features like free wireless Internet. There is a decent selection of cocktails, starting around NT$150, plus wines, coffees, and shots of tequila, vodka, whiskey and--of course--Greek ouzo. Beers (NT$110-170) include about six Belgian varieties like Duvel and Rubbel Sexy Lager. Although the owners stress that Uzo isn't a full-fledged restaurant, the small menu here could probably qualify this place as Taichung's first Greek eatery. Mediterranean-style fare includes NT$210 Gyros Kebab Wraps (served with fries)--chicken, pork and the vegetarian Falafel Wrap--all made with imported lavash bread. There are also similar NT$180 gyro kebab salads, plus Greek Salad with feta cheese and olives. Wraps and salads include two out of eight available sauces, like Yoghurt Mint or Basil Lemon Mayonnaise. Appetizers include Hummus Dip with Lavash Chips (NT$110) and Calamari Rings (NT$150).
