Disco 18F comfortably falls into the "only-in-Taichung"
category with some rather unique decor. Located on the 18th floor
of the new Golden Plaza shopping complex opposite the Taichung train
station (and topped by the landmark "space needle"), the
disco is a huge cavernous place which can fit up to 2,500 people,
according to management. Despite the no-frills surroundings, all
seating in the disco has been taken directly from a Boeing 747 --
rows and rows of economy and business class seats, complete with
seat-back food trays, mounted on wheeled platforms which can be
moved around the disco. A couple genuine, enormous jet aircraft
wheels and a large eye-shaped bar (also mounted on wheels) complete
the setting. Every night at midnight, a large lighted UFO flies
across the disco's ceiling on a track and, at 1:47 a.m., there is
a simulated "eight-scale earthquake" at the bar (for those
who didn't get enough on 9/21). Cover charge is NT$300 and drinks
range from NT$150 to NT$250.
