The distance between Taichung City and the rest of the world grows smaller and smaller!

Over the past decade, almost everything in Taichung has become increasingly "world-class", from technology and culture to architecture, as the outside world has also become increasingly familiar with this city. These were factors in a decision by the FIABCI (International Real Estate Federation) to hold its 64th annual meeting in Taichung. From May 24 to 30, 2013, guests from all over the globe will be in Taichung for this event, further reducing the distance between our city and the world.

This column aims to introduce recent Taichung developments from a professional perspective and promote its beauty and improvements.

This year, Taichung is very honored to be given the opportunity to host the 64th annual meeting of FIABCI. Taichung City Government Land Administration Bureau Director-General Tseng Kuo-chun shared some insights that underlined the progress of preparations for the event. He noted that Taichung was able to get such an opportunity because of the "soft power" generated by its creative culture and people, adding that he was very confident that the city government's work efficiency would be up to the task of supporting this international gathering.

According to Tseng, despite the fact that Taichung does not currently have an abundance of international high-end hotels, it is using good planning to ensure that foreign guests are able to appreciate the city's beauty. For example, accommodations and some meetings will be handled by The Splendor Hotel, which has the city's highest number of guest rooms, while a welcoming dinner party will be held at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts as a way of showcasing Taichung's arts and culture. An awards ceremony will take place at the beautiful Mon Coeur in Dakeng, where guests can enjoy a beautiful sunset, with a concluding farewell party hosted by Houli district's Fullon Hotel, which has a large banquet venue able to accomodate over 1,000 guests.

The 1,000-plus participating guests, including important FIABCI members, will undoubtedly have high standards for service quality. Thus, it will be a challenge to fulfill the specific needs of all participants and their families, said Tseng, citing one past example. Last year, Taichung city government representatives and Taichung Real Estate Association Chairwoman Lily Chang traveled all the way to St. Petersburg in Russia to attend FIABCI's 63rd annual meeting. This 300-year-old city is home to many large opera houses, museums and beautiful historic spots that Taichung City can't compete with. However, when the Taichung delegation arrived, it took members over three hours to check in because there were seven checkpoints at the conference site.

Tseng stressed that Taichung had better service efficiency and that participants would only need to go to through one checkpoint to complete check-in formalities. In addition, the city government is planning all kinds of fascinating activities for participants and their families that will allow them to learn more about Taichung's culture and tourist spots.

Tseng also pointed out that Taichung was a city able to present Taiwan's multi-cultural background, and that its local culture perfectly fits the FIABCI's main theme of innovation and sustainable development. By comparison with Taipei's real estate, Taichung's buildings are more creative and beautiful, but cheaper, with many Taiwanese owners of businesses in China preferring to purchase Taichung properties. The city government has even planned a "Taichung Real Estate Night Out" event that invites real estate agents from around the world to visit Taichung's unique high-end buildings.
