Facing the back side of First Square in the heart of "Little Southeast Asia", this friendly eatery is run by Vietnamese-American Danny Pham, who has made Taichung his second home after Orange County, California. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Angela Cheng

A. Danny's sizable menu of very reasonably-priced Vietnamese specialties includes these deep-fried NT$100 Spring Rolls Bun (Bun cha nem), filled with pork, carrots, onions, mushrooms, spices and Vietnamese "nuoc mam" fish sauce, and served on a bed of rice vermicelli ("bun") with sprigs of basil and parsley. They go great dipped in more nuoc mam and with a bottle of Bia Ha Noi pale lager (NT$70) and/or some Vietnamese Black Coffee (NT$60).

B. The classic Vietnamese "pho" flat rice noodles (NT$80) are available here with either seafood, chicken or beef (pictured).

C. The basic, bright and clean two-floor interior seats at least 120 and often fills up on weekends (especially Sundays) with Vietnamese, Taiwanese and Western customers.
